Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium, Educational planetarium in Bangalore North, India
The Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium is an astronomy education facility in Bangalore North, Karnataka. Its dome theater seats around 210 people and runs shows about stars, planets, and space exploration.
The planetarium opened in 1989, founded by the Bangalore City Corporation as part of a network of five Nehru planetariums spread across India. It was created to bring astronomy education to different regions of the country.
Shows are presented in Kannada and English to reach audiences from across Karnataka. School groups visit regularly, which means morning sessions tend to fill up quickly.
The planetarium is open Tuesday through Sunday with several shows each day covering different topics. It is a good idea to check show times in advance, as seating is limited.
Next to the dome theater, a Science Park offers more than 40 hands-on exhibits covering physics and astronomy. Many of the stations invite visitors to try out experiments themselves, which makes the visit appealing for all ages.
