Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath College of Fine Arts, Art gallery in Bangalore North, India
Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath is an art museum and college of fine arts in Bengaluru that brings together 18 galleries on a sprawling campus. Thirteen of these rooms are reserved for permanent exhibitions of paintings, sculptures, and folk art, while the others host rotating shows.
S. S. Kukke, M. Arya Murthy, and M. S. Nanjunda Rao founded this institution in 1960 with support from the Karnataka government to promote and preserve fine arts. Over the following decades, it grew into a center for art education and public exhibitions.
The collections display Mysore paintings with fine gold lines and leather puppets from traditional shadow theater, showing art forms from Karnataka that have existed for centuries. Visitors can walk through rooms where these works are organized by theme and region, making it easy to follow the variety of local craftsmanship.
The gallery spaces open daily from 10:30 AM to 6:00 PM, giving you enough time to see both fixed and rotating exhibitions. If you want to explore all areas, plan at least two hours.
Every January, Chitra Santhe takes place, a street art festival that turns the surrounding area into an open gallery and draws thousands of visitors. Artists from all over Karnataka sell their work directly on the street, creating a completely different atmosphere from the museum itself.
