Public Utility Building, Bangalore, Commercial skyscraper on Mahatma Gandhi Road, Bangalore, India
The Public Utility Building is a 25-story commercial tower rising to about 106 meters in central Bangalore, housing over 100 retail shops, offices, restaurants, and other businesses. The structure serves as a major commercial cluster that draws thousands of daily visitors seeking banking, shopping, and dining options.
The structure was built in the 1970s by the Bangalore City Corporation under the architectural design of Atul Sharma and structural engineering by Kamal N. Hadker. This project represented the city's modernization efforts during that era.
During the 1990s, a rooftop restaurant on the upper floors was a fashionable dining destination for the city's social scene. This kind of landmark continues to define how residents remember Bangalore's past.
The building is easily accessible on Mahatma Gandhi Road and offers convenient access to numerous shops and banking facilities spread across its many floors. Note that the top two floors are currently closed to the public due to maintenance concerns.
The building has served as a landmark in Bangalore's development since the 1970s and remains one of the city's recognizable towers on the skyline. Its name reflects its original purpose as an office complex dedicated to public utility services.
