Halasuru Someshwara Temple, Bangalore, Hindu temple in Halasuru, Bangalore, India.
Halasuru Someshwara Temple is a Hindu temple in Halasuru, southern Bengaluru, dedicated to the deity Shiva. The main hall stands on carved stone pillars, and several smaller shrines surround an open courtyard with an old banyan tree at its center.
A local ruler commissioned the building in the 14th century when the region was under the control of the Hoysala dynasty. Later rulers from Mysore added new towers and side walls during the 17th and 18th centuries.
Worshippers fill the courtyard during morning and evening rituals with chanting and the scent of incense sticks. Families from the neighborhood come regularly for prayers and blessings, while older residents linger on the steps to talk with each other.
The nearest metro station lies just a few minutes on foot and makes the journey straightforward. Visitors should cover shoulders and knees and remove footwear before entering the shrines.
The walls carry old inscriptions in several scripts that record land grants and events from centuries past. Some of these texts name merchants and villagers who once supported the building.
