Jog Falls, Waterfall in Karnataka, India
Four distinct cascades of the Sharavathi River plunge 253 meters from a rocky bed that measures 230 meters in width.
The hydroelectric plant near the falls started operations in 1948 as the Krishna Rajendra project, named after the ruler of Mysore.
The four segments of the falls carry names reflecting Indian heritage: Raja meaning king, Roarer, Rocket, and Rani meaning queen.
Visitors need to navigate 1500 steps to reach the base of the falls, with viewing platforms at Watkins Point and Bombay Bungalow.
During monsoon season, the water volume increases so significantly that these falls surpass Kaieteur Falls in Guyana in height and flow.
