Hardoi district, Administrative district in Lucknow division, India
Hardoi is a district in Lucknow division, situated across fertile plains between the Gomti River and agricultural lands. The area is organized into five administrative tehsils and nineteen development blocks serving villages and towns throughout the region.
The district was established in 1856 during British rule with administration initially based in Mallanwan. The administrative headquarters moved to Hardoi following the events of 1857.
The district maintains strong ties to Hindu mythology through Nemisharayan, a pilgrimage site located 45 kilometers from the district headquarters.
The district is organized through local administrative offices and village assemblies that provide services to residents. Visitors should know the region includes several development zones and rural areas with varying levels of infrastructure.
The Sandi Bird Sanctuary, roughly 19 kilometers from Hardoi city, hosts numerous migratory birds in its freshwater marshland. The wetland changes appearance with the seasons and becomes especially active during migration periods.
