Shri Naimishnath Vishnu Temple, Hindu temple in Sitapur district, India
Shri Naimishnath Vishnu Temple is a Hindu temple in Sitapur district, Uttar Pradesh, India, with three separate shrines dedicated to Vishnu, Lakshmi, and Ramanujacharya. The complex combines South Indian and North Indian design elements in its structures and includes a circular water tank used by worshippers for ritual purification.
The temple site served as a gathering place for ancient sages who met to discuss Vedic teachings and share their knowledge. This spiritual tradition continued through many centuries, passed down from one generation to the next.
The site takes its name Naimisharanya from an ancient Sanskrit term referring to a swift movement of the deity, and pilgrims visit daily to bathe and offer prayers. Worshippers use the water in the circular pool for ritual washing, especially during new moon days when many families gather to perform their ceremonies together.
The complex is located about 95 kilometers (around 60 miles) from Lucknow airport and can be reached through Naimisharanya railway station on the Balamau–Sitapur line. Visitors should plan enough time for their stay, as many pilgrims spend several hours on site to visit the different shrines and perform their rituals at the water.
The water in Chakra Tirth flows in a circular pattern from an underground source, mentioned in several Vedic scriptures as a sacred spot. The name of this pool refers to the divine weapon of Vishnu, which according to legend left this shape in the ground.
