The State Museum occupies four floors with galleries spanning from Stone Age implements to coins from multiple historical periods. The exhibitions display figurines from ancient civilizations, miniature paintings, manuscripts, and artifacts representing different eras of the region.

A British officer established the institution in 1863 as a local collection that later expanded under new management. It received its present name in the mid-20th century after years of reorganization and refocusing.
