Kolar district, Administrative district in Bengaluru division, India
The district spans 4,012 square kilometers in southern Karnataka, bordered by Bangalore Rural district, Chikballapur district, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.
The region, formerly known as Kolahala, served as a battlefield between Chalukyas and Cholas during medieval times and contains over 1,300 historical inscriptions.
Kolaramma Temple from the second century and Someshwara Temple from Vijayanagara period represent religious architecture and spiritual practices of the region.
The district connects to major cities through roadways, with a population density of 384 inhabitants per square kilometer and a literacy rate of 74.33 percent.
Kolar Gold Fields established the district as a mining center, with deposits still believed to exist in various taluks of the region.
