Anamudi Shola National Park

Anamudi Shola National Park is a protected reserve in the Western Ghats featuring dense evergreen forests spread across interconnected woodland patches. The terrain includes multiple highland forest zones with varied elevations and rich plant life.

The reserve was established in the early 2000s to protect the largest continuous highland forest patch of its kind in South India. Its creation was part of broader efforts to safeguard mountain woodland ecosystems across the region.

The name combines Anamudi, referring to South India's highest peak, and shola, a regional term for mountain evergreen forest patches. Walking through the forest, you see the dense vegetation typical of these highland woodlands.

The site sits at a higher elevation with cooler conditions and is accessible via walking paths that connect various forest zones. Visitors should bring sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing to navigate the damp and uneven forest ground comfortably.

The park serves as a critical water source feeding several dams that supply surrounding areas and local communities below the forest. This hidden role makes the woodland vital to the water systems that many people depend on beyond the park's boundaries.
