Indian Naval Academy, Military academy in Payyannur Taluk, India
The Indian Naval Academy is a military academy in Payyannur Taluk, India, located between Ezhimala hill and Kavvayi backwaters. The campus includes a seven-kilometer beach along the Laccadive Sea and facilities for maritime training and physical conditioning.
The academy began its operations in Cochin in 1969 and served as a training center for two decades there. In January 2009, it moved to its current location in Ezhimala.
The President of India awarded the academy the President's Colour in November 2019, a high honor recognizing excellence in military service. Cadets from friendly nations across the Indian Ocean region also train here alongside Indian officer candidates.
Visitors should note that the campus is a restricted military zone and access requires advance permission. The best time to inquire is during morning hours on weekdays outside major training cycles.
The location is considered the largest naval academy in Asia and the third-largest training facility for naval officers worldwide. The academy uses the natural coastal setting to conduct realistic training exercises on open water.
