Ezhimala Hill, Mountain summit in Kannur district, India

Ezhimala Hill is a mountain summit rising 286 meters above sea level, standing alone among scattered peaks overlooking the Arabian Sea in Kerala. Today the hilltop holds a major naval facility that blends with the natural landscape.

The hill was the capital of the Kolathunadu Kingdom and functioned as a major trading port from the 3rd century BC onward. This strategic position made it a hub for merchants and travelers from distant lands.

The carvings and burial chambers scattered across the hill show how Hindu and Buddhist traditions once shaped life in this coastal region. These ancient traces tell a story of different beliefs that coexisted on this land.

The hill welcomes visitors daily, though some areas may require advance permission due to the naval installation on site. It is best to check local conditions before planning your visit to avoid any access restrictions.

The site hosts one of Asia's largest naval academies, which ranks as the world's third-largest facility of its kind. This academy uses the hill's natural elevation and coastal position to train naval officers, giving the location both historical and modern significance.
