Sri Laxmi Venkatesh Temple, Hindu temple in Kanhangad, Kerala, India
Sri Laxmi Venkatesh Temple is a Hindu sanctuary in Kanhangad with multiple shrines dedicated to different deities including Venkateswara, Mahamaya, Garuda, Ganesha, Mahalaxmi, Hanuman, and Rama with Sita and Lakshmana. The building displays traditional South Indian architecture with separate chambers for each deity, with the main sanctum forming the spiritual center.
The main deity was installed on Akshaya Trithiya in 1865 following ceremonies conducted by Srimad Bhuvanendra Thirtha Swamiji from Kashi Mutt. This founding event established the temple as a permanent center of spiritual worship for the community.
The temple serves as an important center for the Gowda Saraswatha Brahmin community in the region, where people gather for daily prayers and religious ceremonies. Visitors can observe traditional rituals and practices that have been maintained through generations.
The temple welcomes visitors year-round, with special celebrations during Navarathri, Karthik Pournami, and Bhajana Sapthaha. Visitors should dress respectfully and remove their shoes before entering the sacred spaces.
The Chowguli family donated both the land and labor for the temple construction, while the Subraya Kamath family held a special role as Muli oracles. These families remain central to the temple's history and identity.
