The Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology in Shibpur is an engineering college on the banks of the Hooghly River in Howrah. The large campus includes several laboratory buildings, lecture halls, and student dormitories set among old trees and maintained lawns.
The college was founded in 1856 as the Civil Engineering College to train engineers for road and canal construction in British India. After independence, it gained National Institute of Technology status in 2014.
