Churdhar Sanctuary

Churdhar Sanctuary is a wildlife refuge located across two districts in Himachal Pradesh, featuring oak forests and high-altitude meadows on sloping mountain terrain. The landscape varies across its span, creating different zones for animals to live and roam.

This protected area was established in the 1980s to shield mountain wildlife like musk deer and snow leopards from threats. Since then, it has become an important refuge for endangered Himalayan species across its mountain slopes.

A Lord Shiva statue stands within the sanctuary grounds, drawing visitors who come here to practice their faith. This spiritual site shapes how many people experience their visit, blending religious devotion with time in nature.

Multiple trekking paths lead into the sanctuary starting from different base villages in the surrounding valleys, each offering different difficulty levels. The routes climb through varying elevations, so sturdy footwear and careful planning help make the journey smoother.

The sanctuary is home to rare medicinal plants like Wild Himalayan Cherry that grow naturally scattered across the mountainside. Visitors interested in plants often discover this botanical side of the place, which many overlook while focused on spotting animals.
