Shivalik Fossil Park

The Shivalik Fossil Park extends across 1.5 square kilometers, featuring collections of vertebrate fossils and skeletons from the Siwalik geological formations.

The Geological Survey of India established this park in 1974 to protect fossil discoveries dating back approximately 2.5 million years from the Plio-Pleistocene era.

The museum within the park displays numerous skeletal remains, including fossils of extinct primates Sivapithecus and Ramapithecus, contributing to paleontological research.

Located 70 kilometers from Chandigarh and 250 kilometers from Delhi, the park maintains a tourism information desk and accommodates visitors through narrow access roads.

Six life-size fiberglass models stand outside the museum, including representations of extinct mammals such as four-horned giraffes and sabre-toothed cats.
