Mall Road, Shimla

Mall Road stretches for one kilometer as the main commercial street through central Shimla, lined with colonial-era buildings that house shops, restaurants, and public offices. The Gaiety Theatre here has been hosting performances since 1887 and remains a gathering place for the community. Visitors can observe how the street functions as the social heart of the city, where locals and tourists naturally meet and linger.

The street is closed to regular traffic, making it easy to walk and explore the shops and restaurants without worrying about vehicles. An elevator service runs daily from 8 AM to 9 PM to help visitors reach the street from the lower areas of the city.

At Scandal Point where the street meets Ridge Road stands a statue honoring Lala Lajpat Rai, placed at a location named after a reported elopement incident from the British era. The spot's unusual name serves as a reminder of this amusing historical incident that locals have preserved in memory.
