Gaiety Theatre, Shimla, Historic theatre building on Mall Road, Shimla, India.
The Gaiety Theatre stands as a well-preserved Victorian Gothic Revival structure featuring ornate wooden work, arched windows, decorative facades, and an acoustically excellent auditorium that seats over 300 spectators.
Built in 1887 by British architect Henry Irwin, the theatre originally served as part of a larger Town Hall complex providing social and recreational spaces for colonial administrators during the late 19th century.
The venue has hosted performances by renowned figures including Rudyard Kipling, Prithvi Raj Kapoor, Balraj Sahni, and Naseeruddin Shah, earning recognition as the 'Mecca of Theatre' for English-language productions.
Today the theatre complex houses multiple facilities including an art gallery, exhibition halls, a multi-purpose hall accommodating 450 people, and an open-air amphitheatre for outdoor performances and cultural events.
The theatre has appeared in several films and music videos including the 2014 movie Tamasha, Arijit Singh's 'Pachtaoge', and Jubin Nautiyal's 2022 song 'O Aasmanwale' showcasing its cinematic appeal.
