Shri Hanuman Jakhu

Shri Hanuman Jakhu is a towering statue of the deity that rises 33 meters from Jakhu Hill's summit in Shimla. The figure dominates the hilltop, surrounded by a temple complex that spreads across multiple levels down the mountainside.

The statue's construction began in 2008 and reached completion in 2010, with its inauguration ceremony led by Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal. The project emerged from Shimla's effort to establish a significant religious landmark.

The site's name links to a Hindu legend where Lord Hanuman supposedly rested here during his search for medicinal plants. Visitors experience this spiritual connection through the prayers and incense that fill the temple complex today.

The easiest way to reach the hilltop is by the Jakhu Ropeway, which connects central Shimla directly to the temple complex at the summit. Once there, you can freely explore the temple grounds and enjoy views across the city and surrounding hills.

The statue holds the record as the world's tallest Hanuman monument, surpassing even Brazil's celebrated Cristo Redentor figure. This distinction makes Shimla home to the largest representation of this revered deity globally.
