Cooch Behar Palace, Italian Renaissance palace and national museum in Cooch Behar, India

Cooch Behar Palace is a palace with Italian Renaissance features that now serves as a museum in Cooch Behar. The building is made of brick with two stories, features covered walkways with arches, and has a central dome that rises above the roof.

A maharaja commissioned this palace as his residence in 1887, inspired by royal houses in Europe. The building was later converted into a museum to display art and objects from different periods of Indian history.

The Durbar Hall displays intricate carvings and a cylindrical ventilator, showing how European design came together with Indian royal traditions. These details reveal the family's taste for blending styles from different parts of the world.

The building is located about three kilometers from Cooch Behar Railway Station and is easy to reach. The rooms are well laid out and display objects from different periods of Indian history.

The main audience room has an unusual shape with twelve sides and is supported by decorative columns, making it different from typical rooms. This special design merges Italian and Indian building styles in an unexpected way.
