Matiabag Palace, Royal palace in Gauripur, India

The Matiabag Palace stands on a hilltop near the Godadhar River, featuring 24 rooms with Hindu, Mughal, and British architectural elements.

Chinese carpenters from Kolkata constructed this palace between 1904 and 1914 for Raja Prabhat Chandra Barua at a cost of 340,000 rupees.

The palace housed notable residents including film director Pramathesh Chandra Barua and folk singer Pratima Barua Pandey, who contributed to Assamese arts.

Visitors can reach the palace by traveling 9 kilometers from Dhubri or 261 kilometers from Guwahati, with the nearest railway station located in Dhubri.

In January 2023, the Government of Assam purchased the palace for 15.20 crore rupees to transform it into a heritage museum.
