Ghaghar Burhi temple

Ghaghar Burhi is a Hindu temple located on Kali Pahari near the Nunia river in Asansol. The main shrine houses a silver-adorned idol of Goddess Kali, while additional smaller shrines dedicated to Rama, Sita, Hanuman, and Lakshman are also part of the complex.

The temple was established in 1620, making it the oldest religious structure in Asansol. Its presence has marked the spiritual life of the area for over 400 years.

The walls display carvings that reflect Bengali artistic traditions and local devotional practices. Visitors can observe how worship remains woven into the everyday rhythm of the community.

The temple is most accessible during prayer times, particularly on Tuesdays and Saturdays when ceremonies take place. Visiting on a quieter weekday allows for a more peaceful experience of the complex.

The temple's origin stems from a priest who found three stones mysteriously placed in his lap after receiving instructions from a divine vision. This founding story connects the sanctuary to local spiritual traditions in an unexpected way.
