Nehru Park, Burnpur, Public park in Burnpur, India.
Nehru Park is a public park on the banks of the Damodar River in Burnpur, Bardhaman district, India. It has walking paths, a children's play area, and a section along the riverbank where boating is available.
The park was originally laid out as Riverside Park by a manager of the IISCO Steel Plant, the industrial facility that shaped much of Burnpur's growth. It was renamed in 1989 to honor India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
An iron statue of Jawaharlal Nehru, cast at the Kulti Works foundry, stands at the center of the park and was placed there to mark the hundredth birth anniversary of India's first Prime Minister. Families and school groups often gather around it, making it a natural meeting point during visits.
Early morning and late afternoon are the best times to visit, as the heat is lower and the park is less crowded. The paths are easy to follow and the different areas are clearly laid out, so getting around on foot is straightforward.
From certain spots along the riverbank, visitors can see the Biharinath hills rising on the far side of the Damodar River, giving a wide open view across the water. The same stretch of riverbank is also a good place to watch waterbirds that gather there regularly.
