Eros Cinema, Art Deco movie theater in Churchgate, Mumbai
The Eros Cinema features a red sandstone facade with a semi-circular tower and decorative elements throughout its white and black marble interior halls.
Commissioned by businessman Shiavax Cambata and designed by architect Sorabji Bhedwar, the Eros Cinema opened its doors to the public in February 1938.
The cinema building represents the fusion of Indian and Western design elements, with murals depicting national architecture alongside Art Deco styling patterns.
The theater contains 1,204 seats across multiple levels and stands at the intersection of Maharshi Karva Road in the central business district.
Fritz von Dreiberg created interior decorations including relief sculptures of female figures and a large frieze illustrating film production processes.
