Kamakshi Amman Temple, Mangadu, Hindu temple in Mangadu, Tamil Nadu, India
The Kamakshi Amman Temple features traditional Dravidian architecture with stone carvings depicting various deities and mythological scenes across its walls and pillars.
The temple was established more than 500 years ago as a sacred site where Goddess Kamakshi, an incarnation of Parvati, performed penance to marry Lord Shiva.
During the annual Brahmotsavam festival, the temple complex fills with devotees participating in ceremonies, offering prayers, and watching traditional dance performances.
The temple opens daily from sunrise to sunset, with special pujas conducted at specific times, and visitors can reach it by taking local buses from Chennai.
The temple houses a distinctive Kamakshi Peetha where the main deity stands in an upright position, adorned with jewelry and fresh flowers throughout the year.
