Karaikal Ammayar Temple

Karaikal Ammayar Temple is a Hindu shrine in Puducherry featuring detailed stone carvings and sculptural representations of deities within the Shaiva tradition. The sanctuary contains multiple courtyards and shrines where religious scenes are carved into walls and columns throughout the complex.

The shrine is open daily and visitors can move freely through open courtyards and multiple entrances. It sits about one kilometer from Karaikal bus terminal, making it accessible by public transport.

During specific ceremonies, the shrine is darkened except for two torches illuminating the statues of Lord Shiva and Karaikal Ammayar. This ritual lighting creates an intense spiritual setting that highlights the veneration of these sacred figures in an unusual way.
