Zion Church, Tharangambadi

Zion Church stands with brick exterior walls, stained glass windows, and tiled brick spires near Fort Dansborg in the Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu.

Reverend Bartholomaus Ziegenbalg established this Protestant church in 1717, during the period when Tharangambadi operated as a Danish colonial settlement.

The church maintains historical records from the 18th and 19th centuries that document religious services, burial ceremonies, and community activities of the local population.

The Lutheran Mission manages religious activities at the church, which remains open for regular prayers and services under the Trichy-Tanjore Diocese administration.

The church houses one of India's first printing presses, which produced the first Tamil translation of the New Testament in the early 18th century.
