Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary, Wildlife sanctuary in Kerala, India
The sanctuary spans 128 square kilometers across the Western Ghats mountain range, featuring tropical evergreen forests, grasslands, and diverse ecological zones.
Established in 1958, the sanctuary gained international recognition in 1985 when its dedicated wildlife protection wing commenced conservation operations.
Several indigenous communities maintain connections with the land surrounding the sanctuary, participating in regional conservation and ecological protection initiatives.
The sanctuary offers guided tours between November and March, when temperatures range from 16 to 35 degrees Celsius and weather conditions support wildlife viewing.
The sanctuary contains a specialized crocodile rehabilitation center, established in 2007, which houses twenty mugger crocodiles for research and conservation.
