Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary

Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary spans across the Western Ghats mountain range and includes tropical evergreen forests, grasslands, and multiple ecological zones. The landscape features varied habitats that support numerous wildlife and plant species throughout the protected area.

The sanctuary was established in 1958 to protect and preserve the region's remarkable biodiversity. It later gained international recognition, highlighting its importance as a globally significant conservation area.

The best time to visit is between November and March when weather conditions are pleasant and wildlife spotting is most likely. Guided tours are available during this season and offer the best opportunities to observe animals in their habitat.

The area houses a specialized center dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating crocodiles, caring for endangered mugger crocodiles found in the region. This facility plays a vital role in studying and protecting these remarkable reptiles for future generations.
