Shri Kalika Devi Temple

Shri Kalika Devi Temple sits between two hillocks with a main shrine dedicated to goddess Kalika and smaller sanctuaries arranged around it. The layout creates a natural focal point where buildings and landscape blend together on the hillside terrain.

Records from the 12th century call this temple area Rishishringapura, showing its standing as a significant religious center. These early mentions suggest the site held importance through medieval times as a place of worship and gathering.

The temple comes alive during Ugadi when local artisans organize religious ceremonies and visitors bring agricultural products as offerings. These customs reflect how the community ties its identity to harvests and craftsmanship through worship.

The temple is accessible from Dharwad, roughly 62 kilometers away on the Dharwad-Bijapur route, with regular bus services stopping at Sirsangi. Wear sturdy shoes since the terrain is hilly and there are several pathways to explore around the complex.

The temple grounds hold two natural caves: Maunappanagavi, which holds around 200 people, and Siddeshwaragavi, reached by climbing around 200 steps. These caves served as spaces for meditation and spiritual retreats for believers across generations.
