Yellamma Temple, Saundatti, Hindu temple in Saundatti, India
The Yellamma Temple in Saundatti is a Hindu temple located on Yellamma Gudda hill in Karnataka. Behind the main structure lie three water tanks named Kumkum Kundam, Yoni Kundam, and Arihan Kundam, considered sacred by visitors.
Archaeological findings confirm occupation from the 8th to 11th centuries under Rashtrakuta and Chalukyan rulers. Bomappa Nayaka built the current structure in 1514.
The name Yellamma comes from the Dravidian words Elle and Amma, meaning mother goddess together. Devotees from pastoral communities come here to worship the deity as protector of their herds and families.
The site includes guest houses and health facilities managed by the Karnataka government. The place welcomes visitors throughout the year, though expect larger crowds during certain times.
A sacred well called Jogal bhavi contains water that local people believe helps with skin ailments. Many use it regularly hoping for relief from their conditions.
