Sriram Sagar Project

The Sriram Sagar Project extends 15,600 meters across the Godavari River, featuring a 43-meter-high dam that forms a reservoir with 3.17 billion cubic meters capacity.

Construction of the dam started in 1963 under Jawaharlal Nehru's initiative and reached completion in 1977, transforming irrigation practices in drought-affected Telangana districts.

The dam supports traditional farming communities across five districts, enabling year-round cultivation and maintaining centuries-old agricultural traditions in the region.

Four turbines at the hydroelectric plant generate 36 megawatts of electricity while providing water for irrigation to one million acres of farmland.

The reservoir supplies drinking water to Warangal city and manages flood control through a complex system of canals, including the primary Kakatiya Main Canal.
