Nehru Place, Commercial and administrative district in South Delhi, India
Nehru Place is a commercial and administrative district in South Delhi with numerous buildings housing technology companies, electronics retailers, and business offices. The area spans multiple blocks with mid-rise structures from the 1970s alongside more recent developments.
The Delhi Development Authority established this district in 1972 as one of eleven planned district centers for the city. The project transformed former informal settlements into a planned commercial and administrative zone.
The area takes its name from Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister, linking this commercial hub to the nation's early leadership. The naming reflects how the city has grown around figures central to India's independence.
Three metro stations provide good access to the area, and a dedicated bus terminal connects it with other parts of the city. Multiple banking facilities and refreshment areas are spread throughout the district.
The district functions as India's largest market for computer hardware and software, with hundreds of shops spread throughout its buildings. This concentration has drawn buyers and traders from across the country and beyond.
