Bina Refinery
Bina Refinery is an oil processing plant in the town of Bina in Sagar district, Madhya Pradesh, located about 180 kilometers northeast of Bhopal. The site features tall towers, large storage tanks, and interconnected pipelines spread across an organized and clean industrial landscape. Visitors see a busy environment set in rural countryside where complex machinery continuously converts crude oil into different fuels and chemical products.
The refinery began operations in 2011 as a partnership between India's state-owned Bharat Petroleum and Oman's national oil company, created to help meet India's growing fuel demand. Since opening, the facility has undergone significant expansions, most notably in 2018 when its processing capacity increased from about 6 million to nearly 8 million tonnes annually.
The facility occupies a large complex filled with pipelines, machinery, and storage tanks, so visits are limited for safety reasons and typically require prior authorization. Visitors should wear appropriate clothing and follow all safety guidelines strictly, as this is an active industrial site handling hazardous processes.
The refinery is connected by a pipeline over 900 kilometers long to a port in Gujarat, where crude oil is delivered directly from the sea. This pipeline infrastructure is a remarkable engineering achievement that brings oil from the coast into India's interior.
