Nirsa block, Community development block in Dhanbad district, India
Nirsa block is an administrative area in Dhanbad district of eastern Jharkhand state, covering roughly 431 square kilometers of land. It comprises 119 villages organized through 27 local councils and is connected by the Asansol-Gaya railway line and National Highway 19.
Nirsa block was established as an administrative unit to better organize governance across the scattered villages of the region. This structure has since supported local administration and resource distribution throughout the area.
Multiple communities coexist here, speaking Hindi, Bengali, Urdu, and Santali in their daily interactions. This linguistic diversity shapes the social fabric and local traditions across the villages.
The block is well connected by the Asansol-Gaya railway line and National Highway 19, making travel straightforward. Banking services are available through 17 institutions distributed across the area for financial needs.
Two major hydroelectric power plants, the Damodar Valley Corporation and Panchet facilities, operate within this area and supply electricity to the wider region. Coal mining operations also function alongside these power generation facilities as a key economic activity.
