Salkhan Fossils Park

Salkhan Fossils Park is a geological site in Jharkhand that displays rock formations containing abundant prehistoric remains, including plant fossils and organic material preserved in stone layers. The exposed rock faces reveal distinct bands of sedimentary deposits from different time periods stacked one above another.

The site was established as a protected geological area in 2002 and contains extensive fossil deposits from the Jurassic period. These preserved rock layers record a significant chapter in Earth's long history of life and environmental change.

The site functions as a learning destination where schools and researchers come to study ancient life forms preserved in stone. Visitors can observe firsthand how fossils remain embedded within rock layers, making geology tangible and accessible.

Guided tours are available between October and March, with experts explaining the geological formations and pointing out various fossils found throughout the grounds. The cooler months offer the most comfortable conditions for exploring the exposed rock surfaces on foot.

The rock walls display multiple layers of sediment stacked on top of each other, creating a natural record of different periods in Earth's history visible to the naked eye. Each band of stone represents organisms and environmental conditions from a specific age.
