Bhojeshwar Temple

Bhojeshwar Temple is a Hindu shrine in Bhojpur village with a massive central sanctuary housing a 7.5-foot lingam carved from a single stone block. The interior displays exceptional stonework and architectural details from the medieval period.

The temple construction began in the 11th century under Raja Bhoja of the Paramara dynasty but was never completed. The reasons for the work stoppage remain unknown to this day.

The temple walls display carved architectural plans that reveal how Indian craftsmen worked centuries ago. These records show the techniques and knowledge that builders passed down through generations.

The shrine attracts many visitors during the Maha Shivaratri festival, when thousands gather for prayers and cultural performances. Plan to visit at less crowded times if you prefer a quieter experience.

The construction bears the marks of over 1,300 different stonemasons, each leaving personal signatures on the stones they carved. These traces reveal how many hands worked together on such an ambitious project.
