Mahakali Temple, Adiware

Mahakali Temple, Adiware, Hindu temple in Adiware, Maharashtra, India.

Mahakali Temple in Adiware is a Hindu sanctuary with three main shrines dedicated to Goddesses Mahalakshmi, Mahakali, and Mahasaraswati. The black stone idol of Mahalakshmi stands as the focal point and defines the temple's layout and presence.

The temple structure was built in the 19th century, rooted in records of goddess worship dating back to the 7th century. After a period of interruption, active worship resumed in 1715.

The temple draws large crowds during the Navratri festivals and Diwali, when devotees gather to pray and celebrate together. Friday processions with the goddess image are woven into the local rhythm of life and show how deeply this place is rooted in the community.

The temple is easily accessible from larger towns in the region and has basic facilities for visitors. It is best to wear comfortable shoes, as there is considerable walking involved in exploring the complex.

Within the complex, a traditional water-drawing system still functions, using tree bark and bamboo poles to lift water from below. This handcrafted mechanism is a rare example of old engineering techniques that remain in daily temple use.
