K-1 Air Base

K-1 Air Base is a military airfield in Kirkuk province with multiple runways and large hangars for aircraft maintenance and storage. The facility includes administrative buildings, barracks, and several training centers spread across the grounds.

The base was taken over by coalition forces in 2003 and has since served as a training facility for Iraqi security personnel. It developed into an important site for military instruction and air defense operations.

The base employs numerous Iraqi-American language specialists who facilitate communication between U.S. military personnel and local Iraqi security forces.

Access is restricted to authorized military personnel and official visitors with proper clearance. Visitors should follow security guidelines and observe marked areas and vehicle routes.

The surrounding Hamrin Mountains near K-1 Air Base contain complex tunnel networks that require specialized military operations.
