Qazvin, Capital city in Qazvin Province, Iran

Qazvin is a city in Qazvin Province, Iran, located about 130 kilometers west of Tehran at an elevation of 1347 meters. It sits in flat terrain south of the Alborz Mountain range and connects major trade routes between Tehran, Isfahan, and the Caspian coast.

The city reached its peak importance as the capital of the Safavid Empire from 1555 to 1598, after Tabriz fell to Ottoman forces. This period left it with major architectural works and established it as a center of Persian power and learning.

The Chehel Sotoun pavilion, part of the former Safavid palace complex, displays Persian architectural traditions through its decorated columns and interior designs. Walking through it, you notice the intricate craftsmanship and the way such spaces once served as centers of royal life and gatherings.

The city is well-connected by major routes, making it accessible from surrounding regions. Visitors can explore various historical sites and local bazaars without difficulty.

Sardar Cistern stands out as a remarkable water storage structure recognized for its single large dome. It demonstrates sophisticated Persian engineering techniques used to manage water resources in the region.
