Geno Biosphere Reserve

Geno Biosphere Reserve is a protected area in Hormozgan Province covering mountainous terrain, forest zones, and coastal sections with varied plant life. The reserve contains hot springs throughout its 27,500 hectares and supports date palms, pomegranate trees, and numerous medicinal plants in different zones.

The Iranian Department of Environment protected this area in 1976, and it was later recognized by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve. This official designation marked an important commitment to safeguarding the valuable ecosystem and its natural resources.

Local inhabitants practice farming methods passed down through generations, showing how people here have adapted to living alongside nature. These traditional approaches remain visible today and shape daily life in the communities scattered throughout the reserve.

Visitors can hike along established trails and watch birds in their natural habitats across different landscape zones. The terrain varies from mountains to forests to coast, so wearing appropriate footwear and planning your route beforehand helps make the visit more enjoyable.

The reserve is home to large predators like leopards and grey wolves that roam relatively freely across its landscape. Spotting these animals here is a reminder of how the ecosystem remains intact enough to sustain apex predators in their natural state.
