Abu al-Hassan Kharaqani Mausoleum

Abu al-Hassan Kharaqani Mausoleum is a shrine in Shahrud County built from brick and plaster using traditional Persian construction methods. The complex includes pilgrim accommodations and a collection space for texts about Islamic mysticism and spiritual teachings.

The shrine was built around 1100 and underwent major renovation in the 13th century. The original mosque that stood on the site was later incorporated into the expanded sanctuary.

The site reflects the spiritual devotion of medieval pilgrims through its ornamental stucco work and written verses on the walls. Visitors can see how people shaped this space to honor a revered Islamic teacher and mystic.

The site sits about 24 kilometers from Shahrud city and works best as a walking visit since the rooms are arranged close together. Plan time on-site to view the wall decorations and carved inscriptions throughout the complex.

The prayer niche from the original mosque survives and can still be viewed within the shrine today. This preserved element shows how earlier structures were integrated into new construction while maintaining their religious importance.
