Chahar Padshahan, Historic mosque in Lahijan County, Iran.
Chahar Padshahan is a historic mosque in Lahijan with a rectangular layout, four rooms, and a north-facing porch. The structure has two main entrances crafted from polished wood and functions today as both a worship space and a protected heritage site.
The structure was originally built in 1250 as a mausoleum for Seyyed Karkiya and later became a place of prayer. During the Safavid period, it underwent substantial architectural expansions and modifications.
The central room holds wooden barriers enclosing the graves of four Karkiya dynasty rulers. This adjacent space serves as a prayer hall and shows how the building combines memorial and worship functions.
The mosque sits at Vahdat Square in Lahijan and is easily accessible to visitors. Respectful dress and behavior are expected when entering this active religious site.
The interior walls display Qajar-era tiles that ornament the surfaces with intricate patterns and colors. The original carved wooden doors were moved to Tehran's National Museum to ensure their preservation.
