Chabahar Port, Maritime port in Chabahar, Iran
Chabahar Port is a maritime facility on the Gulf of Oman coast in southeastern Iran. The complex includes two harbor sections, Shahid Kalantari and Shahid Beheshti, offering space for cargo vessels arriving from the Indian Ocean.
Planning for this facility began in 1973 under Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. The first section opened in 1983 during the Iran-Iraq conflict, giving the country its own access point to Indian Ocean shipping lanes.
Chabahar Port connects multiple nations through trade routes, facilitating commercial exchanges between India, Iran, Afghanistan, and Central Asian countries.
The port sits outside the city of Chabahar in an area used mainly for logistics and cargo handling. Access roads run through flat coastal land where vessels dock from different directions.
This facility is the only one in the country with direct access to open ocean beyond the Persian Gulf entrances. Its location allows connections to Indian Ocean ports without passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
