Palace of Venaria, Royal palace museum in Venaria Reale, Italy

The Palace of Venaria is a royal residence in Venaria Reale that spans multiple pavilions and formal gardens. Baroque courtyards connect decorated interior halls with an extended gallery lit by two-story window facades.

Charles Emanuel II of Savoy commissioned the estate in 1675 for hunting expeditions and appointed Amedeo di Castellamonte as architect. The royal builder expanded the original core over subsequent decades into a grand residence.

The chapel dates from the late Baroque period and hosts concerts and ceremonial events today. During summer months, visitors and locals gather in the main courtyard to celebrate festivals that honor the estate's artistic heritage.

The estate is located at the edge of Venaria Reale and is accessible by public bus from Turin. The main rooms are best explored with a guided tour, while the gardens invite independent wandering.

After military occupation following Napoleon's campaigns, calcium layers accumulated on the frescoes and columns. Restorers carefully removed these deposits layer by layer to reveal the original 18th-century paintings beneath.
