Seregno, Commercial commune in Province of Monza and Brianza, Italy.
Seregno is a commune in Lombardy that lies between Milan and Monza, crossed by several main roads and railway lines. The center sits on a flat plain with low-rise buildings and broad avenues, while the surrounding districts include residential neighborhoods with smaller streets.
The settlement existed in the Middle Ages as an agricultural hub before growing through industrial development in the 19th century. It officially received city status from the Italian government in 1979.
The town grew around Piazza Risorgimento, a central square lined with facades from different centuries. Today the historic center mixes residential areas with shops and offices, while newer developments occupy the outskirts.
Travelers can reach the town easily by train or by car, as several railway lines and motorways run directly through the commune. Most services and shops are within walking distance from the central train station.
Every two years the town hosts the International Ettore Pozzoli Piano Competition, attracting young pianists from many countries. The competition was founded in 1959 and honors the local composer and educator Pozzoli.
