Lamezia Terme

Lamezia Terme is a municipality in the Province of Catanzaro in southern Italy. The settlement includes three distinct neighborhoods—Nicastro, Sambiase, and Sant'Eufemia Lamezia—and sits at 216 meters (709 feet) elevation in the Amato River valley between the Tyrrhenian and Ionian seas.

Norman count Robert Guiscard founded a Benedictine abbey in Nicastro in 1062, establishing a religious center in the region. The three formerly independent settlements merged into a single administrative entity in the 20th century.

The name combines Lamia, referring to an ancient water basin, and Terme, honoring the Roman thermal baths that once operated here. The center extends across several formerly separate settlements that merged into a single municipality in 1968.

The international airport connects the area to major European destinations and lies south of the center. The main train station links the municipality to other Italian cities and provides regular service along the Calabrian coast.

Palazzo D'Ippolito was built in 1763 and displays Austrian and Hungarian influences within its late Baroque style, reflecting the origins of the family who commissioned it. The facade combines southern Italian forms with Central European design details rarely found in the region.
