Pellio Intelvi, Mountain municipality in Alta Valle Intelvi, Italy
Pellio Intelvi is a mountain village in Alta Valle Intelvi made up of two centers: Pellio Inferiore in the lower area and Pellio Superiore situated higher up the slope. The terrain spans different elevations and offers views across the surrounding valleys.
The area developed as part of the mountain communities and operated as its own municipality in the Province of Como until 2017. It then merged with surrounding villages to form the larger Alta Valle Intelvi.
The Church of St. George displays numerous Baroque frescoes and stuccoes that reflect the artistic traditions of this mountain region. These works shape how the place looks and show its connection to craftsmanship from earlier times.
The place is reached by mountain roads that run from Como and pass through the valley. Visitors should expect steep paths and changing mountain weather, so sturdy footwear is recommended.
This mountain village produced notable artists such as Baroque sculptor Ercole Ferrata and architects Domenico Corbellini and Carlo Lurago, who became known far beyond the region in the 18th century. Their works shaped many places across northern and central Italy.
