Piazzola sul Brenta, Italian comune

Piazzola sul Brenta is a small town in the Province of Padua situated along the Brenta River in the flat plains of northern Italy, home to around 11,000 residents. It features wide, quiet streets and low-rise buildings creating an open feel, with Villa Contarini as its centerpiece - a grand historic estate containing large halls decorated with paintings and sculptures, a portico stretching over 180 meters, and expansive gardens with water features.

The settlement first appears in records from the 13th century and came under control of the da Carrara family in the 14th century, then passed to the Venetian Contarini family. They built Villa Contarini in the 16th century on the site of an earlier medieval fortress, transforming it into a center for Baroque social and cultural life.

The name originates from Latin meaning open land. Villa Contarini served as a center for music, theater, and social gatherings during the Baroque period, a tradition that continues today through concerts and cultural events held throughout the year.

The town is easily accessible from Padua, approximately 17 kilometers away by road or train. The wide streets and flat terrain make exploration on foot or bicycle pleasant, especially along the paths that run beside the Brenta River.

Isola Mantegna, a neighborhood within the town, was the birthplace of the renowned Renaissance painter Andrea Mantegna in the 15th century, whose artistic influence shaped the region. A monument erected in 1925 commemorates this important connection to art history.
