Troina

Troina is a commune perched on the mountainous terrain of Province of Enna within Nebrodi Park in Sicily. The town spreads across sloped streets lined with stone buildings that follow the natural contours of the landscape.

After Norman conquest by Roger I in 1061, the town became Sicily's first capital under Norman rule. The fortified position served as the base for expanding control across the rest of the island.

The church Maria Santissima Assunta shapes the town center with architectural elements from different periods layered into its walls. It functions as the spiritual heart where residents and visitors gather for celebrations and daily worship.

The town sits on steep slopes, so visitors should expect winding, uneven streets throughout. Comfortable walking shoes are essential for exploring the narrow pathways and multiple elevation changes.

The Torre Capitania remains from the original castle complex and now hosts exhibitions about regional heritage and history. This surviving tower allows visitors to see where power was once concentrated during the earliest period of Norman Sicily.
