Ales

Ales is a small town situated on the slopes of Mount Arci in the Province of Oristano, Sardinia. The buildings display traditional Sardinian architecture constructed with natural stone, blending into the surrounding landscape.

The area contains the only obsidian deposits in Sardinia, which were used for toolmaking throughout the ancient Mediterranean. This natural resource made the place economically and strategically important from prehistoric times onward.

The Cathedral of Saint Peter stands at the heart of the community as a place for shared religious gatherings. It reflects the local faith traditions that have shaped daily life here for centuries.

The nearest international airport is located in Cagliari, approximately 70 kilometers to the south. Spring and autumn are the best seasons for visiting when temperatures remain comfortable for walking and exploring the town.

This is the birthplace of Antonio Gramsci, an influential twentieth-century thinker whose political and philosophical writings shaped European thought. His ideas continue to be studied in schools and universities across the continent.
